Nikken, a Global Giant with Homespun Values

Nikken started with Isamu Masuda, a young man with a gift to envision what others couldn’t. But life was hard. For too long, illness had been his companion. He wanted to shed infirmity and embrace a healthy body, healthy mind, healthy family, healthy society, and healthy finances. With these Five Pillars of Health balanced in his life, Mr. Masuda knew he could find peace. He wanted total wellness for himself and his family. In his heart, he wished that everyone could have this gift. His heart’s desire was to make a difference.

The Birth of a Vision
In a traditional Japanese hot bath, Mr. Masuda sighed with relief as the pebbly pool floor brought momentary peace into his body. Energy renewed him. He marveled at this ancient custom that always worked. An idea came to him slowly, steadily, like the scented vapor lifting from the bath: Why not create an insole that felt like the bath’s pebbly bottom? The year was 1973. The name of the business would be Nikken, a blending of two Japanese words, Nihon and Kenko, meaning “Japan” and “health.” And the product was the prototype of the Magstep.

In 1975, Nikken opened its doors in Fukuoka, Japan, with only one room and three desks. But Mr. Masuda knew that great things can come from small beginnings. He set out to share his vision that all people can enjoy the 5 Pillars of Health and that total wellness is a powerful concept that must be shared.

Mr. Masuda understood the importance of relationships. He communicated his ideas through seminars. He understood the concept of caring and sharing. One person speaking to another. Humans being more, feeling passion for what they knew. The way to total wellness.

Nikken grew. First the Kenko-Creator, a fore-runner of the MagCreator, was added to the product list. Then the Kenko Pad, a forerunner of today’s sleep system. Nikken moved to Brazil, then into Hong Kong and Taiwan before opening its doors in the United States in 1989.

Nikken expanded to Portugal, Thailand and Spain. By then the product line incuded the Magboy, the KenkoSeat and the Sleep System. Wellness Consultants spread the message of total wellness into Canada and Puerto Rico, then Mexico.

Yet even with huge growth, the message was always personal: one person reaching out, talking to another. Nikken believed in reaching out to its people, helping them along the way, first with the Humans Being More Training to help them grow as individuals and then with Gold Training as a way for Wellness Consultants to learn how to grow with success.

Cutting-edge nutritional supplements were included in the Nikken product family, then KenkoTherm products and Magstrides. France, Finland and Ireland joined the Nikken

Mr. Isamu Masuda family as the International Business Certification program was introduced and Nikken Wellness Consultants were empowered to share wellness all over the world.

Belts, jewelry, Thermowear clothing, magnetic Promo Pads, Elastomag wraps — Nikken products were going global.

In 1999, the $66 million Nikken world headquarters opened in Irvine, California.

In the new millennium, Nikken has continued to venture to more countries, including Israel, Singapore and is targetting China and India, the two most populous nations in the world.

A Global Scope
The PiMag Water System was added to the Nikken product line. Soon the PiMag line had the Optimizer, the Aqua Pour, the Shower System and the Water Filtration Bottles and Magna Tote. The CardioStrides and Jade GreenZymes were added to the product line, completing Nikken’s presence in four key areas: rest and relaxation, environment, fitness and nutritionals.

In recent years, Biaxial Magnetic Technology and infrared technology have produced the PalmMag and Biaxial Supermini, as well as the KenkoWave. In Japan, Nikken also carried the BioBeam.

Over the years, Nikken has touched so many lives, yet so many more people have needs that Nikken can answer. Make a difference in the world with Nikken.
